Charming house in an ideal location
This lovely house is ideally situated for easy access to the shops and restaurants of Domme but, despite its convenient location, it is also very peaceful. The property is full of character and is beautifully furnished and decorated. It is also very well equipped. The owners were very helpful and their recommendations regarding local restaurants were very useful. I would strongly recommend this property.

A Little Bit of French Paradise
Maison de la Roche was the perfect family holiday home. Excellently situated in the lovely village of Domme.
All of the bedrooms and en-suites were very clean, and furnished to a very high standard. The layout of the rooms gives various options to where family members can sleep without disturbing each other.
The kitchen was very well kitted out with all the appliances and utensils that you will ever need. Plenty of glasses/plates/cutlery etc; are supplied for all your needs. The small touches, such as the supply of 6 plug adapters; means that you don’t need to pack them.
Each TV has British digital TV – so the children are well catered for. Along with the vast array of DVD’s; books & games.
Although wet weather entertainment was not required during our stay; the play room with table tennis and dartboard are a nice addition.
The outdoor space was wonderful. The terrace was located so you can enjoy your breakfast and lunch in the sun. The pool was superb.Well maintained and a good supply of quality sun loungers and parasols for lazy afternoons by the pool.
Having the car parking space in Domme at the property is brilliant.
The communication process before; during and after our stay, with the owner; Isobel; was excellent.
Wouldn’t have to think twice about returning to Maison de la Roche in the future; as it provided us with a perfect family holiday with many special memories.

Stunning property in wonderful location
The pictures on the website do not really do the property justice. Every last detail has been thought about. The property was spotlessly clean and very well maintained and we were delighted with the charm of a traditional french kitchen, in keeping with the rest of the property, but wich nevertheless had all the modern appliances required. The proprietors were extremely helpful both before and during our stay and made sure we had a phone call on our first night to ensure everything was in order, which was a lovely touch. The house is ideally situated to visit the many stunning places in the area, all within a 20/30 minute radius. We didn’t have time during our fortnight to visit them all so will definitely return.

Lovely house in the middle of Domme
The house is lovely with a few hidden surprises. I won’t disclose what, other than to say that it made us all smile. Isobel has thought of everything to make sure that guests want for nothing. I particularly liked the adapters, just in case they are needed. The house is very clean and well equipped. The beds and beautiful bedding, were extremely comfortable. I loved the very pretty garden and the wonderful views from the house and garden. It was lovely to lounge around the swimming pool after a day sight seeing or paddling a canoe along the Dordogne. The house is situated just a short distance from the restaurants and shops in Domme, which is a beautiful village overlooking the Dordogne river and beautiful countryside. We were lucky enough to be there when the Tour de France went through. The atmosphere in Domme was amazing and after waiting for nearly four hours, the cyclists went past so close we could nearly touch them. The French people made us feel very welcome everywhere we went and their humour was wonderful.
The customer service from Isobel was exemplary, she kept in touch prior to our visit, provided route maps from the airports, informed us the Tour de France was going through Domme and made sure we were contacted (by her dad) when we got there to ensure everything was ok. Perfect. Thank you Isobel.

Stunning property in a perfect location
We arrived at the property and were delighted with our choice. Harry Potter meets Game of Thrones. Tastefully furnished with hidden surprises. What a treat. We felt truly spoilt and the outside area did not disappoint. A fantastic private pool set in beautiful gardens. I would say whilst the AstroTurf grass is very practical next to water, it does get rather hot so nimble feet are required. The kitchen whilst rustic would welcome some updating for those would be chefs. However we still managed to create some masterpieces. All in all a wonderful property and destination. Coupled with the excellent service, generosity and help from the owners you will not be disappointed.

Great gîte, great position
Great position within the walls of Domme, just so easy to be able to walk into Domme without the hassle of parking.
The house was themed in keeping with the town and the Knight Templers. It was spacious and comfortable containing everything that one could ask for. A surprise bottle of bubbly awaited us in the fridge along with a pack of essential items. The rooms were spacious and the beds very comfortable. It was very hot during our stay and fans were provided in the bedrooms and the pool was invaluable.
Isobel or her family were available and helpful.
The area of course was outstandingly beautiful and we look forward to being able to stay there again. Thanks to all.

Ideal Dordogne Destination
It’s difficult to begin and describe such an incredible place.
Maybe the best way to start is to convey how impressed we were with Isobel and the hospitality afforded to us during our visit. Upon arrival, a lovely gift awaited my wife and I, as well as the other couple we were traveling with. This was total unexpected and indicative of the graciousness of our host. In addition to the gift, the home was super-well equipped and had many of the “starters” (e.g., coffee, etc.) that we were expecting to buy at our first grocery stop. Thank you, Isobel, for helping launch our successful Dordogne stay.
Next, we were very impressed with the facility, itself. Unlike many other vacation rentals we’ve enjoyed in the past, the bedrooms were unbelievably spacious and appointed. Being American, we’re used to king-sized beds and were happy to see several in the household. The bathrooms were wonderful and impressively immaculate.
The kitchen was adorable and, again, well-equipped with all the essentials requisite for in-home dining. We leveraged the kitchen several times during our stay, taking full advantage of the Perigord specialty markets in Domme and surrounding location, preparing dinner and dining al fresco on the lovely patio adjacent to the kitchen.
This brings me to the wonderful landscaping surrounding the property. Let’s begin by saying that the website pictures can’t do justice to the actual beauty of the property and the adjacent hills. The views are magnificent and, with the spring foliage and flowers, idyllic. We enjoyed time just sitting on the patio, consuming wonderful fromage and sipping refreshing Bergerac wines.
Not to be overlooked, but the private carpark next to the chateau was a Godsend. Needless to say, parking in one of the most beautiful French Bastides is always a challenge. However, being able to park your vehicle right at your front door was extremely functional.
Finally, the location in Domme, itself, was amazing. Having traveled the Perigord extensively, Domme is absolutely the ideal location for the many wonderful day trips we experienced. Besides being one of the most beautiful and historically-immersed villages in France, its proximity to all that the Dordogne has to offer, is incredible. Whether it’s the majesty of the river you seek, or access to the wonderful wine country, or just the indulgence of fine Perigord cuisine, Domme is the place to be.
So, my strong recommendation is to book Maison de la Roche.

A privilege to stay here…
We’ve holidayed in France for the past 10 years and it has always been a real challenge to get the balance right between privacy on the one hand, and convenience on the other. Well, this time we got it absolutely spot on with Maison de la Roche – a beautiful holiday home in a perfect location.
All the many features and facilities of the property, both inside and out, have already been very well documentated in all the other reviews – and we can very happily and honestly echo them all – but we would also like to focus on the owners (the Sanger family) who have, collectively, made it a truly memorable holiday.
Right from the early stages of the booking process, Isobel has been very responsive, helpful and thoughtful throughout. This was evidenced immediately upon our arrival, because as well as finding a comprehensive ‘Welcome Pack’ including champagne in the fridge, there was also a lovely gift-wrapped present waiting for me on the kitchen table (it was my birthday 2 days after arrival). Furthermore, Andrea and Norman (Isobel’s parents who were staying in their other property just down the road) then invited us all over for an evening meal later in the week, which was a wonderful evening. Such warm, generous and interesting hosts – that evening was one of the highlights of our stay!!
We also really appreciated the thoughtful extra touches in the house that we haven’t come across before, such as hair straighteners as well as hair dryers in the bedrooms, and a comprehensive set of plug adaptors in the kitchen to cover all possible eventualities. It is this attention to detail and focus on customer comfort that really sets Maison de la Roche apart.
To summarise, this was one of our best holidays in France to date in terms of accommodation, location, comfort and facilities, and we certainly hope to return in the not-too-distant future. Sincere thanks to Andrea, Norman and Isobel.

Beautiful property with wonderful views
What a lovely holiday we had. The property was extremely well equipped to cater for our 3 generations of family members with plenty of space to relax and entertain ourselves and felt very much like a home. The kitchen had everything we could need for indoor and outdoor dining or sitting by the pool. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely and the whole place was very clean and well kept. The games room and the extremely well stocked library gave lots of opportunities for family fun. The pool and garden with the wonderful views over the surrounding area. Domme itself has a very good selection of places to eat (the pizzeria was a favourite) and shop but is not far from many places to visit and we did a fair bit of site seeing and kayaking. I would not hesitate to recommend Maison de la Roche and the owners were very helpful right from the start. I hope to visit again.

An easy 5 stars
My good lady wife spends untold hours every year trying to find the perfect property for our annual French getaway. It was obvious from the second we arrived that she had nailed it this year. Apart from the fact that the house is stunning, it gives you that rare feeling that you are in the middle of the countryside but with the knowledge that shops and excellent restaurants are only a few paces away. We loved the garden and spent hours here drinking the local produce and admiring the views. Prior to our arrival Isobel was incredibly helpful and sorted out a power supply so that I could run my precious moth trap, a highlight of my holiday. We absolutely loved Domme and we’re struggling to find somewhere as good for next year’s break. There is a very high chance we will return one fine day!

Maison de la Roche, Domme
We had a lovely week at Maison de la Roche. The accommodation was as described. Isobel Sanger was very helpful as we were a little concerned about getting our large car into the private car park. In fact, she left her residents public car parking permit for us to use in case we had a problem negotiating the narrow street to the property. However, we managed it ok. The property was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything you would expect with plenty of cutlery, mugs, glasses etc. There were even European adaptor plugs supplied.
There were only the two of us so only one bedroom was used. Very comfortable. The en suite shower was lovely too. There was a welcome pack and gift on arrival which included a bottle of champagne. Nothing was overlooked and we were very impressed.
Outside there was the heated swimming pool and we spent a fair amount of time in it. We ate at the Pizzeria, the Chabanoix restaurant and the Auberge de la Place. The food at all was delicious.
There were two staircases at the property which could be challenging for the elderly or disabled. However, all in all, we would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. Thank you Isobel. It was great.

Fantastic Holiday, Beautiful House
The house looked beautiful on the website and when we all arrived we were blown away by how perfect everything was. This house is stunning! Every room is beautifully furnished and very well thought out. Everything you need is fully catered for. We had a lovely welcome basket on arrival with some very thoughtful gifts of local books included. We even had a bottle of champagne in the fridge as we booked for two of the parties 50th birthday celebrations.
The bedrooms were all lovely and the bed are extremely comfortable. Each room having its own bathroom is just luxury. The children loved their ‘fairy tale’ bed in the attic.
The garden is stunning with beautiful view and the pool is a brilliant size. We used the BBQ (gas so don’t buy charcoal in the supermarket like we did) a lot and also ate out at a few restaurants in the area. The house itself though in the centre of Domme is so quiet and peaceful. The parking is such a bonus.
It was just the best holiday home I have ever stayed in. I didn’t want to write this review as I wanted to keep it a secret. Isobel the owner is lovely with great communication right the way through the process.
I really want to go back!

Beautiful, quiet location in the heart of Domme
This property was within the ramparts of Domme and was just as described in the booking information, being spotlessly clean and tidy with everything provided you could wish for on arrival, including a very generous welcome pack.
The swimming pool was a good size and serviced regularly during our stay together with being well heated.
The owners were on hand to answer any queries quickly and efficiently and paid a personal visit on our second day there.
Everything within Domme was within easy reach including a lovely bakery and Pizzeria restuarant that also provided excellent take away. You could not tell you were in such a popular, busy holiday location as it was so quiet and tranquil.
Would certainly go back again and have a wonderful holiday in the heart of the Dordogne.

Great House – Beautiful setting
The owners have sympathetically restored the entire house and garden and we loved the pool ( heated !) We would highly recommend this for families, but not very small children as there are steep stairs to the bedrooms.
The house is really well located in a lovely village, close to Restaurants and Shops. Despite being right in the village it is still quiet and peaceful and the view from the terrace is wonderful.
There is plenty to do in the area around Domme, but please try the local Restaurants – we loved La Cabanoix – excellent food and service and the Pizzeria des Templiers – just up the road and great value. We will return….. The Harris family

A beautiful place
This is a wonderful restoration of a wonderful home in Domme. It is very much as shown in the photos and we would highly recommend it. There are steep stairways so not suitable for the mobility challenged. Equipped with everything you would need and the views are spectacular. It was too cool to swim while we were there but the pool would be great in the summer. All three bedrooms are suitable and very comfortable for couples with very nice bathrooms. One is not heated (I think) so would not be good in cooler seasons.
Domme itself is a great place to stay to tour the Dordogne region – we even went as far as Bordeaux one day. The town has very good restaurants and interesting shops, though I suspect it is very busy during the day with tourists in high season. Service and response from the owners was prompt, friendly and helpful. We would not hesitate to return, and hope to!

A beautiful house in a fabulous location
This was our first time staying in Domme and the house and location made our holiday. The location of the house is perfect for visiting nearby towns and villages and the views were amazing. The heated pool was just a dream for our 2 and 6 year olds (and the adult kids of our party!) The comfy outside seating meant we were able to eat outside at lunch and in the evenings. I would and have recommended this property to friends and family……somewhere we will definitely be returning to. The owners and Dominique were always available if we had any questions or queries. A throughly enjoyable holiday….thank you!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and wish we could have stayed longer.
What a beautiful home! Much nicer than any rental we have stayed in before. The house is quirky and furnished to a very high standard, we had everything we needed. It was spotlessly clean and tidy. All bedrooms were super with the added bonus of all being en- suites. We all slept very well here.
The outside space is lovely too, we enjoyed the pool when the weather allowed and enjoyed the glorious views. Very comfy sun loungers. It was great to be able to walk into the village – Domme is a beautiful place, lots of interesting shops and restaurants – some with the most amazing views. Kids loved the crepes and ice creams . The generous welcome pack was much appreciated , as was all the information about the house/ area – everything we needed to know was covered.
As we had some inclement days we ventured out more than we probably would have done – there are so many fantastic places to visit on the doorstep. We took our daughters to one of the tree top climbing places – they LOVED it – highly recommend.
We visited Sarlat, the castle at Castelnaud, La Roque- Gageac , Monpazier and the Gouffre de Padirac ( amazing caves with boat ride too!)- enjoyed all these trips very much but the caves were probably the highlight.
We would definitely recommended this property, it’s always a worry when you book somewhere that it may not be as it seems in the photos/ description but I really feel this surpassed our expectations – we would love to come back again.
Thank you for a wonderful week.

I spent 2 glorious weeks in this delightful house with my family. It is in a superb peaceful location on the edge of the town and has wonderful views. The house is extremely well equipped in every respect with tasteful decor and very comfy beds! The swimming pool is lovely and the games room was fantastic for keeping our teenager happy.
Domme is a great base for a holiday and has plenty of restaurants within easy walking distance. The owner’s attention to detail is superb with an excellent welcome pack waiting for us on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble and they were easily contactable for any queries.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this house and definitely hope to return in the future.

We lived in France for four years and have rented houses in rural France many times but this is the best yet. The superb garden and glorious views are unmatched in our experience. The house is lovely too, with tremendous attention to detail and a (pleasant) surprise or two as well. Attractive houses miles from anywhere in France are relatively easy to find but driving 10 kms for a baguette is no fun. So a place like this, in one of the most beautiful villages in France, is as rare as the proverbial dents de poulet – especially when there is even off-street parking for two cars. We hope to return but in the meantime finding somewhere as good for next year will be quite a challenge.

Absolutely stunning property with fabulous pool!
We have just returned from our stay at Maison de la Roche and we miss it already!! What a fabulous property, in a brilliant location. The owners have obviously spent a lot of time renovating the house to a very high standard and the photos really don’t do it justice. The swimming pool is a real highlight. It is so warm, has a sturdy electronic cover and a very good alarm system (which was great for us, with two little boys in tow). Domme is a gorgeous little town with plenty to see and do. (Our boys loved the caves and the train ride). The area is absolutely stunning and the house has lovely views over the valley. A helpful welcome pack was provided for us and the owners were fully available in the run-up to our holiday, in terms of little details like arrangements for our baby, directions from airport and provision of a couple of things we needed. We cannot recommend this property highly enough and commend Isobel and her family on such a good job!

Ideal house in an ideal setting
We were the first renters of this beautiful property and truly enjoyed the ten days we spent there. It combines pleasurable outdoor experiences by the pool, with all the indoor comforts of a well appointed and equipped house. It has been renovated to a high standard and is beautifully decorated. The owner was genuinely concerned about our comfort throughout our stay. It is located centrally to all of the activities in Domme and an ideal location to explore the Dordogne. We would not hesitate to rent this property again. Robert and Kathryn, Victoria, Canada
